The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) was established in the year 1975 with the combined efforts of Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo, his wife Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo and their friend Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo. Initialli the school was started as the College of Nursing. Almost 700 nursing student were enrolled in the first batch with a few were referrals from the Perpetual Help School in Manila. The university is a Catholic-oriented, co-educational, private university, with campuses at Las Piñas, Molino, Cavite, and Calamba City, Laguna in the Philippines.
The University of Perpetual Help is governed by a single Governing Board of Directors which is composed of 15 directors. Out of the 15 directors, 5 directors represent the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 5 for the University of Perpetual Help System Jonelta, and 5 for the UPH-Dr Jose G. Tamayo Medical University Foundation. The university has a single Chairman of the Board and CEO in the person of DR/B.GEN. ANTONIO L TAMAYO.
The institute was granted the status of a university in 1997 by the Commission on Higher Education. Thus the name was officially changed to University of Perpetual Help. The University of Perpetual Help has five campuses. The first campus is the Perpetual Help College and Hospital in Manila which was established to meet the local and international demand for nurses. After two years another campus was established in Malasiqui, Pangasinan with the name the Perpetual Help College and Hospital Campus. This campus was started in response to the government’s program to promote health and educational development in the rural areas.
This was followed by the founding of the third Campus at Perpetual Help School of Laguna, at Biñan, in 1976, and its medical school, the Perpetual Help School of Laguna Foundation. The fourth and fifth campuses – the Perpetual Help Campus at General Marcos Alvarez in Cavite, and the Perpetual Help Campus in Cauayan, Isabela were established afterwards.
University of Perpetual Help System offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. The students who pursue their MBBS from UPHS can work in any part of the world after clearing the national medical exam of the particular country.
The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is recognized by Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) as the only institution south of Metro Manila to have the most number of Level III Accredited programs.
The students, who come to the University of Perpetual Help for pursuing their higher education in medicine, are provided with all the basic amenities and facilities at a very low price. The quality of life in the university campus is world class. The students get good quality food, accommodation, internet access, TV and other facilities. The security system in the college campuses is well secured.
The students are encouraged to participate in athletics, sports like badminton, volleyball, cheer leading, basketball, swimming and other sports. The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA is a member of National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) since 1984 with UPHSD Altas as the team representing the school in various sports.
The university has a Performing Arts Group (PAG) which is the main organization of all artistic activities in the fields of music, theater, and song and dance arts in the college.
