International Medical College (IMC) is one of the top medical colleges in Bangladesh. The college was established in the year 2000 with the permission from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Initially, International Medical College was started with only 20 students in the academic session 1999-2000. After that, the number of students kept on increasing each year. The International Medical College & Hospital is located in the neighborhood of the commercial township of Tongi which is almost 22 km away from the city center of Dhaka.
The International Medical College has a large campus which is surrounded by green vegetation, spaced villages and large water bodies. The campus of the college is spread over an area of about 9 acres of land. The campus includes the college building and all preclinical and para-clinical departments. The building of the college is well maintained having well arranged classrooms, dissection hall, laboratories, museum, library and other facilities.
The International Medical College has an academic hospital – International Medical College Hospital (IMCH). This hospital comprises of 600 beds and is located in the proximity to the College building. The academic staff of International Medical College comprises of many well experienced teachers, professors and scientists. There are around 104 staff members comprising of a famous academicians with proven teaching and research distinction. The various departments of the college are headed by the respective professors and associate professors.
The curriculum of the MBBS course in International Medical College is designed as per the international standards. The medical degree obtained from International Medical College is recognized worldwide. The college is recognized by the world’s major bodies like WHO, UNESCO, MCI etc. The Indian students, who complete their MBBS or other medical degree from IMC, can come back to India and work here after clearing the national exam conducted by MCI. The MBBS course at International Medical College is of 5-years duration. The curriculum is approved by the University of Dhaka and BMDC.

The language of instruction in IMC is English that makes it more comfortable for international students. The teaching pattern in the International Medical College includes lectures, clinical demonstrations, tutorials and practical ward demonstration, seminars, symposiums, workshops, field visits and residential field site training (RFST), demonstration and autopsy. Academic progress reports of students are sent to their guardians time to time.
IMC has a large library which is located in the College Building and has a collection of a plenty of text and reference books. The Library has a reading room, which can accommodate about 60 students.
The students, who successfully pass the final MBBS examination, undergo one year internship training. During this period, 11 months and 15 days training is done at International Medical College Hospital (IMCH) and 15 days at Upazilla Health Complex.
International Medical College has always been keen in keeping extracurricular activities among the priorities apart from studies. The college regularly organizes sports, cultural functions, annual picnic and other entertainment events for the students. The students are encouraged to participate in such events.
The college provides transport facilities for the students who do not reside in the hostels. The hostels are well equipped with furnished rooms. The security system in the hostels is well maintained. All the basic facilities are provided in the hotel rooms like TV, internet access, water supply etc.
